Fantasy Sleeper Experiment, Week 11
VSÂ
Well, it’s going to be a stretch, but I’m going to field an entire fantasy football roster consisting of sleeper/tweener type players. There will be no Peyton Mannings or Larry Johnsons. The roster will include 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 “slash”, 1 TE, and 1 Defense. For the purposes of this exercise, no kicker will be needed. I will put my sleepers up against a team of studs (with no care of mathcups) and see how things turn out. We’ll use a very basic scoring system- This is all really just for kicks, I do think some of the tweeners are decent starts.
TD- 6 points
10 rush/rec yard - 1 point
20 pass yards - 1 point
Subtract 2 points for any turnover
Defense: 10 points for shutout- Subtract 2 points for every 6 points allowed thereafter- 1 point per sack, 2 points for any turnover, 6 points for a TD-
QB Matt Leinart vs. Detroit- Ok, I know Leinart isn’t an “unknown” but what QB is? Fact is, Leinart, after starting off hot, has put together 3 subpar weeks, and has dropped off many fantasy radars. He may have even landed on a few waiver wires. If he is on your wire, and you’ve got QB trouble this week, Leinart is worth a start vs. Detroit. He has all his weapons at his disposal, thanks to the return of Larry Fitzgerald, has home field, and Detroit is not a stingy defense.
*honorable mentions: John Kitna @ Arizona, Ben Roethlisberger @ Cleveland.
RB Wali Lundy vs. Buffalo Lundy should be solid vs. Buffalo this weekend. He seems to have entrenched himself to get at least 15 carries per game, I’d expect 20+ this time around.
RB Marion Barber III vs. Indianapolis- I’ve been high on Barber all year. The guy continues to steal carries and TD’s from Julius Jones. The Colts run D is horrendous, and although Jones is the starter, I believe Barber is the more complete back.
*honorable mentions: Reggie Bush, Maurice Jones Drew
WR Antonio Bryant vs. Seattle- Ok, I’ll be honest, Bryant was one of my sleeper picks to start the season, and he hasn’t really lived up to expectations. He started out the year good enough, but hasn’t done much since week 2. Bryant tops the century mark and picks up a TD this weekend. (If this happens I am a certified genius)
WR Eric Moulds vs. Buffalo- Definately an “off the radar” type guy. I’m making this pick in hopes that Moulds wants to exact some revenge vs. his old team. I know, I’m going way out on a limb here. Every fantasy team needs a wiley old veteran.
*honorable mentions: Doug Gabriel, Mike Furrey, Greg Jennings
WR/RB Duece McAllister vs. Cincinnati- Duece is a household name, but I had to pick my team up somehow. He’ll get in the end zone this weekend against Cincy.
TE Anthony Fasano vs. Indianapolis- Yeah, I know, he’s the 2nd tight end for the Cowboys. Fasano catches his 1st TD of the season vs. the Colts.
Defense SanFrancisco vs. Seattle- Niners at home, playing a little better on defense lately. Seahawks with a couple rusty players coming back…….who knows??
So, we will field this squad:
QB- Matt Leinart
RB- Wali Lundy, Marion Barber III
WR- Antonio Bryant, Eric Moulds
WR/KR- Duece McAllister
TE- Anthony Fasano
D- SanFrancisco
Against this squad:
QB- Peyton Manning
RB- Larry Johnson, LaDainian Tomlinson
WR- Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens
WR/KR- Brian Westbrook
TE- Antonio Gates
D- Baltimore
Check back Monday to see how things worked out!
