Bonds Resigns With Giants
Barry Bonds will reportedly resign with the Giants, signing a one year deal worth 16 million dollars. What does this mean? Probably that you’ll have a new home run king by the end of next season….although, no one but Giants fans will recognize the achievement. The Giants have been very busy this off season, resigning Bonds, Ray Durham, and Pedro Feliz, as well as inking deals with Rich Aurillia, Dave Roberts, and Bengie Molina. The Giants also cut ties with manager Felipe Alou and aquired Bruce Bochy from the San Diego Padres. The Giants have lost Jason Schmidt and Mouses Alou to free agency.
Gabs Take- Bonds couldn’t have played anywhere else, as no other city would embrace him. He started off slowly this past season, hitting just .249 with 12 homers before the all star break, but seemed to hit his groove after, batting .292 with 14 homers. He is only 22 shy of breaking Aaron’s record and will break it provided he stays healthy. The Giants seem to be gearing up to make a run at the less than stellar NL West with their free agent additions. One more big bat in the lineup wouldn’t hurt, but any team with a healthy Bonds is dangerous.
