Garner Trojan Catches
I had a chance to check out Garner vs. Wakefield Friday night. Garner won the game, 37-21. Garner has a few outstanding players on this years team, and I think they’ve got a good chance at playing for a state title this year.
Wide receiver, Josh Brooks is a Calvin Johnson clone (he also wears the same number as CJ did at GT) and seems to be able to out jump any DB on the field.  They also have a star at QB in Kameron Smith. Smith is nimble, plays with poise, intelligence, and best of all, he’s accurate with his passes. I’ll be keeping an eye on both of these guys as the season wears on.
Here are a couple of high lites from the Wakefield game. First, Josh Brooks hauls in a 21 yard TD pass from Smith. Then, an absolutely amazing catch from Tony Morgan.
Enjoy

No commentsGarner Falls To Riverside

I spent all day Friday afternoon at the dentist office. I wasn’t having any work done myself, it was my father who was having MAJOR oral surgery. The plan was, to have my dad home by 5 pm, and then ride out to Garner, with my friend Ajit, and get some footage from the NC 4-AA High School Semi-Finals game between Garner and Durham Riverside. Didn’t turn out that way, my dad was in surgery an extra 2 hours, and I ended up getting home around 9 pm. Lucky for me they had to re-schedule the game due to rain huh? Not really, Ajit was out of town last night, and I am a season ticket holder with the Hurricanes….so I went to the Canes game.
I missed a great High School football game. Garner fell to Riverside 15-13, missing a chance at the 4-AA finals. Garner could never stop Weslye Saunders who scored both Riverside TD’s, one rushing, one receiving, and ran in a 2 point conversion. Saunders, a 6-5, 270 pound beast, is a guy the Trojans knew they had to stop.
Saunders caught a 13 yard TD pass with 1:32 left in the 4th quarter, giving Riverside a 15-6 lead. Garner quickly responded, with a 55 yard catch by Josh Oglesby to the Riverside 10, and a Darrice Payton 1 yard TD run with 43 seconds to play.
Garner attempted an onside kick that went directly to Saunders, who fell on the ball to end the game. “It didn’t matter where that kick went, I was going to get on it,” said Saunders. “But then he kicked it right to me.” Yeah right buddy.
Anyway, congrats goes out to Riverside, they advance to the finals to face arguably the best team in the State in Charlotte Independence. The game will be played in Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium, next Saturday. I will be pulling for Riverside.
No commentsGarner Advances, Fuquay Falls, Easton Wins
You might remember we previewed the Phillipsburg at Easton football game set for Thanksgiving day. Gabs took Phillipsburg in this game, but Easton pulled it out, 27-21.
Getting MUCH more local, my hometown team, the Fuquay Bengals, lost to 3 time defending champion, Greenville Rose, 28-21 in the 3rd round of the State 4-A Playoffs. Â Fuquay rallied from an early 21-0 deficit, only to fall short in the end.
Finally, my alma mater, the Garner Trojans defeated Fayetteville 71st, 25-12 in the State 4-AA semi-finals. Garner will face Durham Riverside this Friday, at home, for a chance to play in the State 4-AA Championship game.
Garner was led by Virginia Tech commit Josh Oglesby’s 2 Touchdowns.

Below is a little video I took from the game. Enjoy!
1 commentGarner Trojans/Fuquay Bengals Advance In Playoffs
I admit, I haven’t been following the success of the Garner Trojans, (the high school I attended ohhh, 15 years ago). I learned at the Canes game last night that they had advanced into the 3rd round of the State 4-AA football playoffs Friday Night, with a 17-14 win over Fayetteville Britt.
I little more investigation led me to notice that Fuquay (the town I currently live in) advanced in the State 4-A playoffs as well with a 21-18 win over Durham Hillside.
I couldn’t find much, but here is what I came up with.

Hitler Speech Used During Pre-Game Soccer Warmup
A very disturbing story out of Charlotte, NC. It seems that a Hitler speech was played throughout the stadium before a high school soccer game. They are making it out to be sort of an accident, but I don’t think things like this happen on accident.
Read about it here.
