This Is So Much Better Than The Dog Ate My Homework

Ok, I don’t usually delve into the world of soccer, but this story is too good to pass up. Milan soccer player Marco Borriello recently failed a drug test after a match with Roma. Now, you’ve heard all the excuses in the world for failed drug tests; “I didn’t intentionally take the substance”, “It is strictly for my asthma”, or “I just thought it was cream for my joints”. I guarantee you’ve never heard this excuse.
Borriello shows up in court with his girlfriend Belen Rodriguez and claimed that he tested positive for ingesting a cream that Rodriguez used to cure a vaginal infection. Did he brush his teethe with it you wonder? No, apparently, Borriello unintentionally ingested the cream while servicing her “area”.
I gotta say, I’m impressed. Yeah, going down when biscuits are being baked is nasty. But, the nads it took to walk into a room and say “Your Honor: She is the reason I tested positive”…..That in itself deserves at least an investigation. If she can produce the cream (I don’t think a yeast sample is necessary) I’d let Borriello slide on effort alone.

This Week In Soccer: At Last, Consequences For Taking A Dive (Deadspin)
Belen Rodriguez e il doping di Borriello (Excite Italia) This is probably my best source, but appears to be in Italian. No offense to Deadspin.
Belen’s Calender Definitely worth a look.
*UPDATE* Ok, thanks to the modern marvel that is google translate I was able to translate the Excite story into a somewhat understandable version.
In the story, Rodriguez notes:
“The physical contact has been fatal. Indeed lethal. Mark s’ is taken my same infection and without second thought I have advised it to use the cream to the cortisone that my doctor had prescribed to me. Later on the anti-drug test that it has made, evidenced just cortisone presence.
I really hate to ruin the accidental ingestion thing, but according to Rodriguez, Borriello acquired her infection(I assume through sex) and then used the cream on purpose. Still a good story, but not quite as good as the whole biscuit diving thing.

This new bit of information does lead me to wonder how exactly Borriello used the cream. I thought these creams were for rubbing on the infected area.
No commentsDon’t Do Drugs
Remember those “this is your brain on drugs” commercials? Dirk Nowitzki has done them one better with this compelling say no to drugs spot that is running in Germany. At least I think it is a say no to drugs spot. Is it me, or is the kid in the commercial a young Little Bow-Wow?? Anyway, it’s a bit of an abstract piece, in that it shows Dirk playing defense on the kid, and then he actually passes to the kid as well….hey, lay off, in commercial land you can be anything you want! Honestly, you really can’t rag a guy for doing an anti-drug commercial, so kudos to Dirk, even if I thought the “do you want to pet my monkey” guy from Saturday Night Live was about to jump into the scene.

By the way, I attempted to translate the two phrases that appear at the end of the commercial and came up with the following. If anyone knows German or can do a better job of translation please do, because the second phrase makes little sense to me.
Triff Deine Entscheidung: Make Your Decision
Gib Drogen Einen Korb: Give Drugs One Basket

If you didn’t get a chance to watch the Fiesta Bowl last night figure out a way to watch it. Maybe ESPN Classic will run the game soon. Quite simply, the best game I have ever seen….well, maybe not that, but the best ending for sure. Boise State defeated Oklahoma 43-42 in Overtime. That in itself, made last night a great game…but the way it happened, was well, amazing. I really don’t know where to start explaining what happened, but here goes nothing….
I guess we’ll pick the game up in the 4th quarter. With 1:26 remaining, and Boise State winning 28-20, Paul Thompson hit Quentin Chaney for a 5 yard TD pass, making the score 28-26. Oklahoma obviously had to go for two….which they did, three times. The first attempt was broken up, but Boise State was called for Pass Interference. On the second attempt, Oklahoma converted, but they were called for a penalty. Finally, on the third attempt for 2, they converted, knotting the score at 28. Boise State gets the ball back and immediately throws and interception that was returned for a TD, giving Oklahoma a 35-28 lead. About a minute to play….game over right? No way! Boise State gets to the 50, facing a 4th and 18 with just seconds remaining….and they run a HOOK AND LADDER…..scoring to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Watch the 4th Quarter Highlights HERE
So, the game goes to Overtime. Oklahoma gets the ball first and scores immediately, as Adrian Peterson runs it in from 25 yards out. Boise State answered with another 4th down TD where a WR took a direct snap and threw a 5 yard TD pass. Rather than go for the extra point and send the game into another overtime, Boise State decides to go for 2 and the win. In one of the more amazing plays you’ll ever see, the quarterback pump faked a pass to the right, then deftly handed the ball with his off hand to Ian Johnson who ran in the 2 point conversion for the win. Johnson then proceeded to run over and propose to his girlfriend, (a cheerleader) who said yes! Simply an amazing game, I encourage ANYONE to watch all the highlights I’ve posted, this may go down as the greatest game in college football history.

Jim Valvano speaks to the crowd in Reynolds in 1993. This speech preluded his famous ESPY speech but is just as powerful and inspirational. Anyone that has ever dreamed or loved can gain something from what Valvano said that day.
I found this video on this guys channel. He has a lot of videos up with a local flavor to them.
