Yahoo! has run yet another story on Reggie Bush and his family accepting cash gifts. This time, the “ongoing Yahoo! Sports investigation” has uncovered actual audio tapes that confirm Bush and his family accepted some $280,000 in gifts.

Couple questions. Why is Yahoo! the main entity chasing the story? Yeah, ESPN is reporting it, but they are crediting…..Yahoo, without the exclamation point. Secondly, who cares? This would be a story if Reggie Bush were still in college, but he’s not. Yeah, they can take away the National Championship, a Heisman, erase all that stuff from the books, but it isn’t going to change the fact that it happened. I admit, the Yahoo story got too confusing for me to read, I just sorta skimmed it….kinda like I do when the other Bush (George W.) is in the news. With that being said, forgive me if I get something wrong here.
I’d also like to know how a player, playing for USC could accept $280,000 and USC simply be stripped of their achievements, retroactive so to speak, yet a school like NCSU has players accept some free sneakers in the late 80’s and the program is placed on strict probation. What I’m saying is this: If it is determined that Bush (Reggie, not George) and his family accepted $280K and USC gets anything less than probation in the form of recruiting restrictions and a post-season ban, then the NCAA is a farce. You can’t play in other games Tank…but come Super Bowl time…yeah, you can go to Miami and play in the Super Bowl. Not only that, but you aren’t required to adhere to any curfew or other restrictions. The city of Miami is your’s for the pillaging my friend. Something tells me that Miami, and a guy with obvious gun issues doesn’t mix, but oh well. I’m sure this will tighten the spread by a point or so.

Ok, I don’t usually delve into the world of soccer, but this story is too good to pass up. Milan soccer player Marco Borriello recently failed a drug test after a match with Roma. Now, you’ve heard all the excuses in the world for failed drug tests; “I didn’t intentionally take the substance”, “It is strictly for my asthma”, or “I just thought it was cream for my joints”. I guarantee you’ve never heard this excuse.

Borriello shows up in court with his girlfriend Belen Rodriguez and claimed that he tested positive for ingesting a cream that Rodriguez used to cure a vaginal infection. Did he brush his teethe with it you wonder? No, apparently, Borriello unintentionally ingested the cream while servicing her “area”.

I gotta say, I’m impressed. Yeah, going down when biscuits are being baked is nasty. But, the nads it took to walk into a room and say “Your Honor: She is the reason I tested positive”…..That in itself deserves at least an investigation. If she can produce the cream (I don’t think a yeast sample is necessary) I’d let Borriello slide on effort alone.

In the story, Rodriguez notes:

This new bit of information does lead me to wonder how exactly Borriello used the cream.  I thought these creams were for rubbing on the infected area.

Ron Mexico is at it again. I’ll see if I can give you the short version of what happened. Vick was flying from Miami to Atlanta from Miami International Airport yesterday. Apparently, he was told to discard a water bottle at a security checkpoint and was a little reluctant to do so. This raised the attention of screeners who recovered the bottle and investigated it. Evidently, Vick obtained the bottle from James Bond, as it had a hidden compartment in it.

”The concealed compartment contained a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana,” Miami-Dade Detective Kevin Kozak wrote in his report. “The top half contained a small amount of clear liquid. When held upright the bottle appeared to be half full of water.”

The Miami Dade Police have notified the NFL that they are now investigating the bottle to see if it contained drugs. Personally, I’ve got no problem with someone that wants to smoke a little weed or whatever, but HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE!? As an NFL athlete, is it that important to take your bottle of sticky icky along with you on an airplane? You’re telling me Vick doesn’t have a contact in Atlanta? Was he planning on getting stoned while on the plane? Cold he not afford to buy more? WOW.
*Disclaimer* The following is simply my personal opinion, based in no way on any factual evidence…..sorta.

The only logical conclusion I can come to is this: Vick must be a regular user of marijuana. I can’t see any other reason why someone would do something so stupid. The weed must have impaired his ability to think….to the point where he tries to sneak water bottles with secret compartments onto airplanes. For example, have a look at this spider on drugs. The strange activities of the spider go a long way to explain the behavior of Vick.

Not sure why this story isn’t getting any national press. The Big Lead got hold to it, as did the Miami Herald.

CNN is running a story today on some parents that got into a fight at a Pee Wee football game. Keep in mind, these were 5-6 year old kids, and from the video, it appears the parents/coaches were fighting due to calls made on the field? The one guy says that the referees need to “take control of the game”….are you kidding me? Also, why does it seem all the people fighting are overweight? I’m just sayin.
Seriously folks, if you are taking a 5 year olds game THAT seriously…….you need help. And people wonder why we see continuous brawls at the college and pro level.

Sadly enough, football (both college and pro) has made headlines this year for things other than touchdowns and extra points. Monday Night there was another altercation, this time between Tyler Brayton of the Oakland Raiders, and Jerramy Stevens of the Seattle Seahawks.

Fines were handed out to each player today. No suspensions were issued.
Of course, everyone saw the brawl between Miami and FIU back in October. Check it out here, and be sure to listen to the idiotic comments from Lamar Thomas at the 1:48 mark. Suspensions were handed out to both teams, the Miami player shown swinging the helmet was suspended indefinately. Here is a great ESPN take on the situation.
Then there was Albert Haynesworth stomping on Andrew Gurode’s head. You can watch that gem here. Haynesworth was suspended 5 games.

The wrong message is being sent to players with weak suspensions or fines. It’s time the NFL and especially the NCAA step up and show that this type of thing isn’t acceptable. It’s really sad that the NFL will fine a player for doing an end zone dance, and then fine a player for kicking another player in the groin. The crimes don’t match.
